"Keith Pyles Fund"
Keith A. Pyles is a 46 year old father of 2 daughters, ages 16 and 12.
Keith’s kidneys failed when he was 21 years old. He received a
transplant in 1986 at 24 years old. Keith was able to hold on to his
transplanted kidney until 2005 when the kidney failed due to age,
(unfortunately transplants have a shelf life of 13 years, so Keith has
been very fortunate because he takes very good care of himself and his
kidney). Keith is not in need of a kidney transplant. He has been on
permanent daily Dialysis since March 2007. He and his family live in
Louisville. The past couple of years have brought many challenges for the
family. The family owned their own home for 15 years, however due to
rising medical and daily expenses and the time off work for numerous
hospital stays, they were unable to keep their home. Keith continued to
work part time to continue the family’s medical coverage for as long as
he was able. In January 2008, Keith became unable to continue working. He
has been hospitalized SIX separate times since then for ongoing issues
with his renal failure. Due to these numerous trips to the hospital, his
name had to be removed from the transplant list due to health. In June
Keith had surgery to remove his failed kidney, as it had been determined
that the kidney was poisoning his other body systems and would eventually
shut down his other organs. Doctors are now hoping that with the original
transplant gone, Keith may eventually be healthy enough to be put back on
the transplant list to receive a kidney.
