| DESCRIPTION | Families Galore Anticipating This Year’s Historic Downtown Vero Beach celebrates their annual old-fashioned Christmas meshed with a popular street party when “Christmas in Downtown at Downtown Friday” is presented (the day after Thanksgiving) on Friday, November 27. This popular Holiday event runs from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on 14th Avenue between 20th and 23rd streets. Patrons will find a Holiday Craft Fair open for business along 14th Avenue and inside the Heritage Center, the Downtown Friday Beer Garden and many varied food vendors. Charity of the Evening will be CASTLE, a non profit organization that provides Child Abuse Services, Training and Life Enrichment. Motorcycle enthusiasts may wish to participate in a Poker Run beginning at 3:30 p.m. from the Long Branch Saloon. It continues to the Vero Beach Shadows Lounge, 902 US Highway to Filthy McNasty's Pubbery, 1238 16th Street to Rosie Malloy's Pub, 1125 21st Street and ending at Downtown Friday at approximately 5:30 p.m. All non-bikers can participate in a Pedestrian Poker Run by visiting the CASTLE Booth in the downtown event location beginning at 5:30 p.m. Proceeds from both Poker Runs will be donated to CASTLE. All arriving motorcycles should enter downtown on the south end of 14th Avenue, and park their motorcycles in the block in front of the old Florida Theatre. Decorate your bikes and have fun at the event! Premiering at Downtown Friday from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. is E.S.P, originally scheduled at the rained out June Downtown Friday. This Florida-based group of professional musicians has become widely recognized as one the best at recreating the signature sounds of Rock's biggest acts. E.S.P will also have the privilege of introducing Santa Claus during his arrival to the event at 6:00 p.m. Santa, accompanied by Mrs. Claus, arriving in an antique convertible car, will join local city officials to usher in the official tree lighting at Pocahontas Park, courtesy of the City of Vero Beach. Santa and Mrs. Claus will visit with children throughout the evening from the Santa House Gazebo in front of the Heritage Center. Current Miss Hibiscus Chloe Rose and first runner-up Shanna Ward will celebrate too handing out candy canes to the visiting children. Christmas in Downtown also offers an opportunity for the community to participate in “Holidays for Heroes,” sponsored by the Military Moms Prayer Group, and interdenominational group of women whose mission is to pray for and support our servicemen and women. The holiday gift drive run by this group, as well as other volunteers, pack and ship boxes to send to the troops for the holidays. Treats the troops want most include powdered drink mixes, nuts, peanut butter, dried fruit/raisins, wet wipes or baby wipes, protein and granola bars, canned or foil wrapped meat products, Rahmen noodles, Visa or Mastercard gift cards and white socks.
