| DESCRIPTION | This ride started in 2010 to mark the one year anniversary of the death of Anita Zaffke. She was rear-ended while stopped at a red light and killed by a driver who admitted to painting their nails while driving 50 mph. The crash was dubbed "The Nail Polish Crash". In 2007, Anita embarked on her Epic Ride. She rode her motorcycle solo for 5,000 miles over two weeks from Chicago west to the Oregon coast, north through Seattle, Washington to Vancouver, BC and back home. As an avid amateur photograopher, she spent the days clicking away photographs of the scenery and people she met along the way. By night, she camped, writing & brainstorming for the book she had been working on. While by no means hardcore, it was a trip she cherished and was very proud of. She had figured out what many do not . . . it's not about the destination, it's all about the ride. So make it epic! While Anita's death was the initial driving force behind the Crash Coalition (formerly Black Nail Brigade), our cause extends to all victims of inattentive & distracted driving. Motor vehicle crashes are third behind cancer & heart disease for the amount of lives taken each year. Each year, more than 5000 people are KILLED United States roadways due to distracted driving. That is 15 loved ones lost each and every day for no reason but another person's selfish actions behind the wheel. An additional 448,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes that were reported to involve distracted driving in 2009. And those statistics are likely very low since many distractions go undocumented or overlooked if DUI comes into play. Most traffic fatalities that do not involve a DUI are not given enough attention by law enforcement, our court system, the media or the general public. We ride to bring attention to the 100% preventable highway carnage caused by inattentive & distracted drivers. There is no cause more imminent or important for motorcyclists, bicyclists, pedestrians and the general motorist. We ride to honor the lives of our loved ones taken in traffic who will forever be with us in the wind. ----------------------------------- 52-Mile Escorted (Intersection-Controlled) Motorcycle & Car Ride - Delavan, WI to Lake Zurich, IL • FREE DWD Awareness Rally that will include a BMX Stunt Show, an Online/Silent Auction, Music & Live Bands. • Meal Ticket Included in Ride Registration KICKSTANDS UP @ HIGH NOON.
